3 Tips for Better Work-Life Balance

The demands of today’s work and home life can be very challenging. Many people find themselves working longer and harder thanks to smartphone that keep them connected to work even after they’ve headed home for the day. If that sounds like ‘your life,’ these three tips can help you to establish better work-life balance.

#1 Make Sure Your Schedule Includes Downtime

When you are planning your week, you should make sure that you also put into your schedule some downtime to spend with your friends and family, along with any activities that you like to participate in to help you to recharge. That might be the scheduling of a date night with your partner, a hockey game with friends, movie night, time for a run, a family dinner, or any other activity that you are looking forward to participating in. Doing this will help you to be proactive with your scheduling. When it is on your schedule it becomes a reality and it doesn’t get pushed aside forgotten or ignored. It’s even a great way to just schedule some quality family time in.

#2 Enjoy a Little R&R

It’s a common misconception to think that in order to bring balance into one’s life they need big changes, but actually just a little R&R can go a long way. How much is a little? Well you might be surprised. Leave work a little early one day a week, spend an hour a week on a hobby, take 15 minutes out of your busy day to soak in the tub, go for a walk, read a book, or whatever else you enjoy. Just a little relaxation can go a long way.

#3 Ditch Those Activities That Zap Your Energy and Time

We all have activities that we are involved in that zap our energy or waste our time. Take a close look at your time and how you use it. Maybe you find you are surfing the net for a couple hours a night or on Facebook for thirty minutes a day. Maybe you find you waste an hour a night on the phone or three hours of your evening are on spent watching TV. When you realize where your time’s going you can change things.
